The Plant Genetic Resources portal
Genesys is a global portal to information about plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. It brings together information on genebank collections from many different sources all around the world, characterizes and evaluates data and provides additional information such as the environmental information from the sites of collection. The overall aim of the portal is to secure long-term conservation of plants by facilitating access to and use of their genetic resources.
It drives to achieve this through the incorporation of records from data providers worldwide into one interface, so that a single search can span genebanks around the world. Presently, the portal gives users access to an estimated one-third of genebank accessions held worldwide, with plans to expand by making it easier for more data providers, large and small, to add their collections to the portal and through building a community of data providers who give high quality accession information available to the world.
